Weapons
The roman weapons were pointy, sharp and strong. The military name was S.P.Q.R. They had a strong legion with many people. They had bow and arrows and iron sword. They rode on horses and was very strong in power. They conquered many cities and were popular. They were one of the powerful and successful empire of all times.
The conquered most of the empire around them by a very popular leader named Trajan. The Roman weapons were also unique and other empire didnt have it. This was because Rome was technically more technological. Firstly, the Romans made the crossbow and catapult. The crossbow could be shot from a distance and would be very powerful and would cause a lot of damage, so before they reached most of the other army would be gone. One of the greatest weapons the Romans made was the catapult. The roman catapult was so strong when shot and hit at the person, it would cause sudden death in seconds. This weapon was able to go past amour and shield. This was a huge advantage and on top of that they were skilled fighters and worked as a team protecting each other. The Romans also had a short spear to stab, long spear to fight and a javelin for throwing.
Training
The Romans had about 30 legions each consisting of many soldiers. The Romans trained everyday passionately and eventually became very skilled. The romans were very strict when it came to rules in the army. The was a main person with a stick to beat any soldier which disobeyed him. He was also given a punishment. In training, unlike other civilizations, the soldiers learnt how to shoot crossbows, catapults and use a slingshot with stones. Some important soldiers also learnt how to swim in rivers and surprise their enemies like today commandos. The soldiers wore strips of iron armor, on the head a metal helmet and carried a rectangular shield curved a little bit to protect the body better. The shield was made of wood and leather. When the Romans trained they practiced fighting, marching and running a lot to keep fit. The soldiers also always obeyed the leader and were very smart. This was because when they were being fired of arrows from top they would come together and lift their shields for protection. Their formation was called testudo as they were formed in a shape of a tortoise. This was because the formation looked like a tortoise and can hide it self with strong defences like the animal.
